Early Life and Education
Kristi Lynn Noem was born on November 30, 1971, in Watertown, South Dakota. She is the first female governor of South Dakota, having served since 2019. Noem graduated from Hamlin High School in 1990 and went on to earn a degree in political science from South Dakota State University.
Political Career
Noem began her political career in 2006 when she was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives. She served in the House until 2010, when she was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing South Dakota's at-large congressional district. Noem served in the House until 2018 when she was elected governor of South Dakota.
As governor, Noem has focused on economic development, education reform, and healthcare. She is a strong supporter of President Donald Trump and has implemented several conservative policies in South Dakota.
Personal Life
Noem is married to Bryon Noem, a rancher and farmer. They have three children. Noem is a member of the Republican Party and is a practicing Christian.
